AgriTech Analytics Ltd created an AI-powered technology that integrates satellite data analytics (driven
by ML algorithms) and data from our crop and soil IoT sensor to halt and reverse soil degradation, crop
pests and diseases, therefore, helping farmers detect crop pests and diseases early and also get precise
farm inputs.
The sensor is installed in the farm, it captures soil health parameters (pH, moisture, soil nutrient levels,
temp, NPK, etc) for precise soil inputs. It then scans crop leaves and stems to instantly detect crop pests
and diseases. These data are combined with satellite imagery data to produce over 95% accurate data
sent to small-scale farmers via their phones.
It instantly detects 63 crop pests and 51 crop diseases to stop crop losses. There is also, over 65%
reduction in the cost of farm inputs by issuing accurate farm inputs. It helps farmers increase crop yields
by 57% in 3-5 months and to over 75% in 1 year. Its scouting tool helps identify under-performing crops,
then the sensor scans the affected area(s) to determine the problems and solutions. Additionally,
farmers This year in Kenya, 6 million people are being threatened by acute hunger and starvation.
We target smallholder farmers and we currently have 4,930 using our solution from 3 counties (Uasin
Gishu, Nyandarua and Kiambu) in Kenya. There are 7.5 million smallholder farmers in Kenya who
averagely own less than 2ha of land. They face the following problems:
They get annual crop losses of 45%-100% caused by crop pests and diseases. They are also affected by
climate change where 98% of African agriculture depends on unreliable rainfall. Additionally, soil
degradation with 65% of Africa’s agricultural land being affected by soil degradation and farm chemicals’
overuse. Notably, these farmers are not able to use expected crop harvests as collateral to acquire bank
loans. To date, they are unable to predict the weather for easier planning. Sadly, Africa’s smallholder
farmers are the poorest with 75% living on $1 per day.
